This is a warm, spirit-forward sipper served in a coupe or Nick & Nora glass, think fireside vibes in an Eames lounge chair, jazz spinning softly on vinyl. It combines classic mod flavors like brandy and amaro with a lush, warming touch of spiced pear and black walnut.
The Velvet Turtleneck: Winter Mod Cocktail
Ingredients:
1.5 oz Cognac (or a rich brandy)
0.75 oz Spiced Pear Liqueur (like St. George or Mathilde)
0.5 oz Amaro Nonino (for depth and citrusy-bitter balance)
1 dash Black Walnut Bitters
1 dash Angostura Bitters
Optional: barspoon of demerara syrup if you like it richer
Garnish:
Expressed orange peel (gently torched if you want extra winter drama)
Optional: dehydrated pear slice on the rim
Glassware:Nick & Nora or coupe glass, chilled
Method:
Add all ingredients to a mixing glass with ice.
Stir until well chilled and diluted (around 20 seconds).
Strain into your chilled glass.
Express and garnish with orange peel; add the pear slice for visual flair.
Vibe: Elegant yet inviting. It’s a drink that bridges 1960s cocktail glamour with today’s craft edge. The spiced pear liqueur brings a cozy holiday warmth, the Cognac adds structure and richness, while the amaro and walnut bitters give complexity and a touch of mystery.
