Ingredients:
2 oz Rye Whiskey (bold and spicy, very American)
0.5 oz Sweet Vermouth (adds balance and body)
0.5 oz Spiced Maple Syrup* (see below)
0.25 oz Allspice Dram (or St. Elizabeth Allspice Liqueur)
2 dashes Orange Bitters
1 dash Angostura Bitters
Spiced Maple Syrup:Heat 1/2 cup pure maple syrup with 1/4 tsp cinnamon, a pinch of clove, and a few orange peels. Simmer gently 5 mins, then strain. Keeps 2 weeks in fridge.
Glassware:Rocks glass or a vintage Old Fashioned glass
Garnish:
Flamed orange peel
Optional: skewer of roasted pecans or candied cranberry for extra flair
Method:
Add all ingredients to a mixing glass with ice.
Stir until well-chilled (20–25 seconds).
Strain over a large rock in a rocks glass.
Express orange peel over the drink and drop it in. Garnish as desired.
Vibe:
It’s Old Fashioned meets Manhattan meets holiday spice, with a clear American backbone. It pairs beautifully with roasted turkey, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, or even pumpkin pie. Great for sipping before, during, or after the meal.
