Welcome to The Mod Factory

Welcome to The Mod Factory, a creative studio dedicated to original art, handmade works, and books created in-house and driven by mid-century modern influence, pop art energy, and underground culture.

The Mod Factory began as a love letter to style and design but has evolved into what it was always meant to be: a space for making. Today, we focus exclusively on producing our own work, from visual art and prints to handcrafted items and original books, each piece shaped by a deep respect for creativity, craftsmanship, and storytelling.

Born from Ron “The Mod” Black’s decades-long creative life at the intersection of music, visual art, and cultural history, The Mod Factory is more than a shop, it’s a working studio. Everything you find here is designed, written, or made by us.

Here you’ll discover:

  • Original artwork & prints inspired by retro design and modern rebellion

  • Books & zines exploring subcultures, personal narratives, and creative history

  • Handmade items crafted with intention, not mass production

Rooted in Willimantic, Connecticut, The Mod Factory welcomes kindred spirits everywhere. As we continue to grow, expect new creations, limited releases, and a deeper look into the creative process, all made by hand, all from the studio.

ABOUT US

Ron "the Mod" is an author, artist, and style instigator who’s been blending music, art, and mischief since the early '80s. With one foot in punk and the other in mod culture, he’s penned books on cocktails, cuisine, and the subcultures that shaped him, always with flair and wit. From his Mini Cooper or mirror-clad Vespa, Ron leads The Mod Factory in Willimantic, Connecticut, a creative hub where bold ideas and stylish rebellion collide.

Ms. Amelia is the stylish powerhouse behind The Mod Factory, agent, confidante, and master planner. A fixture in the punk scene since the '80s and Ron the Mod’s closest collaborator, she blends the sharp edge of Vivienne Westwood with the poise of Debbie Harry. From making deals to curating the Factory’s image, Amelia ensures every move is smart, bold, and effortlessly chic.

Christy Kelly, “The Procurer,” is The Mod Factory’s secret weapon, part treasure hunter, part deal-maker, and always on the move. Whether it’s vintage furniture, rare vinyl, or the perfect prop, she finds it fast, gets it cheap, and adds a great story to go with it. Unflappable and full of charm, Christy keeps the creative engine running with her uncanny eye and unstoppable hustle.
